Dr. Georgakopoulos was responsible for design and development of:

  • Novel passive and active RF/microwave components, such as, interconnects, power dividers, phase shifters, mixers, and vector modulators
  • High performance and reliability components for interfaces, such as, SMA, type-N, TNC, 7 mm, 3.5 mm, 2.92 mm, 2.4 mm and 1.85 mm
  • Thin-film high frequency circuits operating up to 70 GHz
  • Precision calibration standards
  • High power microwave components
  • High-reliability surface-mount chips for airborne and space applications
  • Complex microwave test fixtures for measuring various components, such as, surface mount chips, and leaded devices

Outreach Activities:

Dr. Georgakopoulos led an outreach program funded by the Motorola Foundation. Through this program, Dr. Georgakopoulos developed materials related to engineering fields and careers (such as, a booklet, powerpoint presentations and an educational placemat) for elementary school students. Also, Dr. Georgakopoulos partnered with three elementary schools in South Florida: Sweetwater Elementary, Charles R. Hadley Elementary, and E.W.F. Stirrup Elementary. He regularly visited these schools for a year and presented the materials to the students in order to inspire them to follow engineering careers. Also, through this Motorola Foundation grant Dr. Georgakopoulos supported the activities of the Motorola Foundation Engineering Expo 2010 that attracted 1,200 K-12 school students to the FIU Engineering campus to expose them to science and engineering and ignite their interest for STEM careers. This program impacted a total of 1,700 K-12 students.
